This is one of the most common of the waxcaps. The distinquishing feature is that the entire fungus slowly blackens with age, even after collecting.
Distinguished by it's sticky pointed conical cap that it retains, even after expanding. Smooth surface, red to orange-yellow or yellow and even olive-green tones but blackens on ageing even after it has been collected. .
Fragile, with no particular odour, it too blackens.
Uneven in length, narrowly attached to the stem and range in colour from white to yellow, depending on age.
White
Thin and hollow, cylindrical with a smooth, longitudinal fibrous surface and varies in colour between intense yellow and orange. The stem also blackens.
Occasional to very common and widespread.
Found on grassland, lawns and parks, occasionally in woods.
