Description: 

Black Horehound is a hardy perennial that has toothed, hairy dull green leaves arranged in pairs, each pair at right angles to the pair it succeeds. The flowers, which are generally light purple and tubular, are arranged in dense whorls at the axils of the leaves.

Distribution: 

Common throughout the U.K.

Habitat: 

Found growing in roadside verges, at the edges of woodland and hedgerows.

Uses: 

The sap of the plant was used for coughs and breathing problems.
