Black Bryony

Description: 

A climbing plant, Black Bryony grows from a tuber and is related to the Yam. It has smooth heart shaped shiny leaves, which turn yellow or dark purple. The stems die in Winter but the rootstock is perennial. It has mall greenish yellow flowers that mature into bright red berries, which are poisonous and can cause mouth burning and skin blistering. Can be fatal if taken in quantities.

Habitat: 

Hedgerows and woodland where the weak stems will climb around anything within reach.
