Description: 

This is the commonest species of bracket fungi to be found in Birch Woods and is the cause of many trees dying. It is very host specific, hardly ever being absent from Birch Woods. The fungi is kidney shaped with a light brown, leathery upper surface and a white undersurface with minute pores. The flesh is corky and has a pleasant smell but a very bitter taste.
