Birch Knight is a common species associated with Birch trees but also found growing with Spruce. The cap is tawny orange-brown colour, often slightly darker at the centre with a slight central umbo and with a furrowed margin. With age, the cap becomes flattened, sometimes with upturned edges but retaining the central umo. The cap surface is sticky when damp. The flesh is yellow with a bitter taste and mealy odour.
