Beaver

Castor fiber

Description

Droppings are small for such a large mammal - 2.3cm long with diameter of around 2cm. Remains consist almost entirely of bark/wood remains.Generally deposited in the water,where they disintegrate rapidly so rarely found.

Footprint Description

Both fore and hind feet have 5 digital pads, subtle claw marks sometimes visible.Webbing between digital pads sometimes seen on soft ground.Curved interdigital or "heel" pad has 4 fused lobes.

Footprint Size

Hind print very large - 15x9.5cm, fore foot 9x8cm.Stride around 30cm
