Bath White Butterfly

Description

Fast flying and a bit of a nomad.The upperside ,which is rarely seen when the butterfly rests ,has black tips to the forewing enclosing white spots.Underside of forewing has two large black spots which are near the outer edge and another on the front edge. female has deeper black markings.Winter passed as a chrysalis or caterpillar.Pupa is always fastened to a solid background, a tree trunk or a stone.

Distribution

Ranges from Northern parts of Africa and Europe except far North, to the Eastern part of Asia. A rare vagrant to the British Isles but can only occasionally found in the southern regions of England.

Status

A fairly stable species throughout its range. In the Uk it is a rare migrant, and currently holds no Conservation status.
