I would reckon it's a Chiffchaff, on the basis that the end of its wing doesn't look very long. The other likely candidate is a Willow Warbler, whose primary feathers project further. However, the best way to tell them apart is by their song: the Chiffchaff is named after its "song", a jinking repetitive "chiff, chaff, chiff, chiff, chaff" etc, whilst the Willow Warbler has a beautiful descending warble. Check the two out on the RSPB website. Once you learn them you'll never forget them (Although that doesn't help if they're quiet)

Jonners you are very good... Just by suggesting the song i don't even have to check (but i will just in case) I can make a guess that it was a chiff chaff, it has been niggling me for a while what bird it is that makes the chink chink chonk chink sound hahaaa that was my description of it any way!! as you have guessed im fairly certain that its the chiff chaff... is it a loud call, the bird i could hear was fairly noticable?

The call is very noticeable Sweedie. And perhaps it should be renamed a Chinkchonk
