Description

This species shows a wide range of colours but can be recognised by an unusual raised patch of scales in the middle of the forewing.

Distribution

Mainly found in the South of England flying between August and November and then from March till May following a spell of hibernation.

Habitat

Heavily wooded areas.

Diet

The larvae feed on rosaceous trees and bushes, including Hawthorn and Blackthorn.
